There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features many conveniences accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
